T-Mobile G1 (based on Google’s mobile operating system Android) is expected to make a debut in US markets in October. One would wonder about the time when this phone will be available in the Asian telecom markets which are the largest telecom markets in the world.

According to reports from Digitimes, China Mobile had earlier made an attempt to offer an Android-based phone to be developed by HTC at the end of the year 2008. So there are good chanced that China Mobile may be working hard to introduce this device first in Asia.

China Mobile is one of the major Asian mobile companies which supports Android and
Is a member of Open Handset Alliance. The other companies of this alliance are NTT DoCoMo and Japanese telecom company KDDI. There is news of delay in the development of open mobile systems based applications, so the telecom service providers might have to wait for the second quarter of 2009 to make a launch.

Although Android will make its first appearance in the US markets but its biggest market could be in Asia (keeping in mind the countries like India where people unlock phones with relative ease and then they have the choice of switching the device.)

It is also notable that currently there is no carrier support for Android in India or Korea, so providers are going through a wait-and-watch policy.

Having said all this, if China Mobile launches an Android-based phone it would be just the kind of credibility this phone needs in the Asian region.
