A company called iSuppli has carried out a research about T-Mobile G1’s manufacturing costs. They have discovered that it takes roughly $144 to manufacture a G1 smartphone. A similar research about the iPhone revealed that it takes about 160$ to manufacture Apple’s beloved device.
iPhone surely has more appealing outlook than G1 for only 16 extra dollars but, of course, you get an accelerometer and keyboard in G1 and both of these really have some worth. It’s interesting to note that market price of G1 is $179.99. It means that HTC and T-Mobile are earning about $35.99 per set.
And this isn’t a huge profit by any mean. Considering the R&D and other costs, HTC and T-Mobile are doing good to make their phone available to the masses at a reasonable price.
